Cultivated from 10 hectares of raw land area in Tanauan, Batangas, Sikat Farm is one among few biodynamic demonstration farms in the Philippines. Adhering to sustainable agriculture and permaculture principles, we take great care of our soil through practice of composting, multiple and crop rotation, cover cropping, and ecological pest management. We grow our flowers, vegetables, fruits, and herbs without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides or herbicides; and we raise all our chickens, pigs, and cows outdoors, never giving them antibiotics, steroids or growth hormones, or feeding them animal by-products.
Our mission and purpose at Sikat Farm are summarized in our three-point agenda:
-
Sustainable Production
We produce fresh all-organic farm products that have been cultivated with careful regard for the soil that we till, the plants and animals that we raise, and the farmers whom we employ. We follow permaculture principles and sustainable agricultural methods that build soil fertility, such as composting, crop rotation, cover cropping, and ecological pest management. We also practice water and energy conservation, proper waste management, and packaging minimization.
-
Education & Advocacy
We promote and uphold sustainable, holistic, conscientious, and ethical farming principles and practices by sharing knowledge and experiences. Our farm is open for tours and offers workshops where people can learn about backyard farming, urban food gardens, or sustainable agriculture. We also connect with our consumers and establish creative partnerships with fellow farmers.
-
Community Upliftment
We elevate the lives and uphold the welfare of our farmers by letting them benefit directly from their work on the farm. We provide housing and decent living for our farmers and their family, aside from letting them partake of the farm’s produce. We also uplift the larger community encompassing the farm by providing gainful employment and livelihood opportunities.
